Shirley Ann Brown, 86, of Colbert, Georgia, died June 11, 2023. Shirley was the daughter of Bartow Partain and Mary Ruth King Partain.  She was a member of Sonlight Baptist Church where she attended for the majority of her life.  After battling several overlapping health issues, she peacefully passed and joined many loved ones as she transitioned from her earthly life.

Shirley was preceded in death by her husband of 61 years, Ed, and her two sons, Dennis and Gerald. She is survived by her daughter, Elaine Brown.  She is survived by 4 siblings, Jean Little, Jimmy Partain (Linda), Thomas Partain, and Malcohm (Gail), and is preceded by 1 sibling, Sue Gable. Beyond her immediate family, she had 4 grandchildren, Brandy Huff (Wesley), Brad Tucker (RaeAnn), George Brown (Ashley), and Jordan Brown (Kaysi), 15 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great-grandchild.

Although Shirley did work various jobs over the years throughout the Oglethorpe County community, she spent the majority of her life staying at home and taking care of her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.  Rarely did a day go by that there was not a kid of some kind running around through and around the Brown home.

What Shirley was most known for was being such a loving, giving, and caring woman, whether wife, mother, grandmother, sister, or friend. Because of that, and being such a great care-giver of everyone in her life, especially during her later years, she became everyone’s “Nanny”. Anyone would echo that she was one of the most loving and kind-hearted souls you will ever meet.

Visitation services will be held Tuesday, June 13th, 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM, at Lord & Stephens East, 4355 Lexington Road, Athens.  Funeral services will be held Wednesday, June 14th, 2:00 PM, at Lord & Stephens East, 4355 Lexington Road, Athens. Interment will follow at Sonlight Baptist Church Cemetery.
