James Sanford "Sandy" Moore, age 79, of Hartwell, Ga., passed away peacefully on Sunday, August 23, 2026, at home, surrounded by his family.

He was born on August 31, 1946, in Hartwell to the late Ralph Henry Moore and Ethel Gaines Moore.

Sandy retired from the Georgia Department of Transportation as a Civil Engineer after more than 35 years of dedicated service. He was a longtime member of Beulah Pentecostal Holiness Church, where he faithfully taught Sunday School for many years. Sandy also proudly served his country in the Army National Guard.

Above all, Sandy was an exemplary husband and father who loved his family deeply and was steadfast in his faith. He was a devoted friend who held firm to his convictions.

Sandy cherished time outdoors — opening day of dove season, the DU banquet, bush-hogging "the back forty", mornings at the DQ, and the company of his dogs.

Sandy Moore left this earthly life with a very good name.

Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Diane Slider Moore; son, James "Jamie" Moore, Jr. (Season), of Raleigh, N.C.; daughter, Rebecca Wright (Greg), of Hartwell, Ga.; and grandchildren, Bailey Soma, Julian Moore, and Olivia Moore.

A service celebrating the life of Sandy Moore will be held Saturday, August 29, 2026, at 4:00 p.m. in the chapel of Coile and Hall Funeral Directors, with Rev. Levy Moore and Rev. Don Nestor officiating. The family will greet friends from 3:00 to 4:00 p.m. Saturday, just prior to the service, at the funeral home. The family will be at the home.
