Obituary for Samuel Bruce Gray Jr.

Mr. Samuel Bruce Gray, Jr., age 83 of Hartwell, Ga., went to with the Lord on Tuesday, September 4, 2018 at Hart Care Center.

Born August 4, 1935 in Mansfield, LA to the late Samuel Bruce Gray, Sr., and Onieta Grimsley McLean he was retired from the Centers for Disease Control in Atlanta where he was a microbiologist/bacteriologist. He received his BS and Masters degrees in Science and held a Law Degree. He was a Mason and member of Chamblee Lodge #444 since 1972 and was a member of Yaarab Shriners since 1974 where he was assistant director on the directors staff. He retired after 35 years of service on the Board of Commissioners with the city of Doraville, and was a lifetime member of the American Legion. Mr. Gray proudly served his country in the U.S. Air Force and attended Hartwell First Baptist Church.

He is survived by; children, Samuel Kerry Gray of Iraq, Donna Gayle Barden of Batesville, Ark., and Sheri Laine Jenkins of Elberton, Ga., brothers, Clark Gray of Bay City, TX and Glyn Gray of Baytown, TX. Grandchildren, Amber Bardwell, Jenny Saunders, Katie Barden, Jessica Law and Stephanie Gray, great-grandchildren, Chance Bardwell, Charm Bardwell, Cameron Saunders, Leo Getman and Luke Getman. He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife, Janice Elaine Shaw Gray.

Funeral services celebrating Mr. Gray's life will be held on Saturday, September 8, 2018 from the chapel of Coile and Hall Funeral Directors at Three o'clock p.m. with Rev. Benson Bottoms along with family members will officiate. Burial with U.S. Air Force honors will follow at Reed Creek Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 2-3 p.m. just prior to the service at the funeral home. Memorials may be made in Mr. Gray's memory to the Shriners Children's Hospitals, 905 W. Faris Road, Greenville, S.C. 29605
