Mrs. Mary Johanna "Cookie" Smith, age 79 of New Prospect Road in Hartwell, passed away on Thursday, November 10, 2022 at her home after a sudden illness.
She was born on April 3, 1943 to the late William Smith and Agnes Schultz Smith.
Mrs. Smith worked at DFACS for a number of years and retired from UGA where she was an Academic Advisor/continuing education with 20 years of service. She attended Anderson College, Clemson and UGA where she received her Bachelors and Masters Degree. She went to Anderson College on a Basketball Scholarship and was a Star basketball player at Hart County High School. Cookie loved helping people, was active in the community, and served as past president of Farm Bureau. She was a member of Sharon Presbyterian Church, loved to camp, cook, and loved UGA football.
She is survived by her husband: George McGrady, children: Michael McMullan(Rebecca Fielding) of Hartwell, GA., Felicia Howell of Dahlonega, and Adam McGrady of Plymouth, MA., sister Catherine Lane of Watkinsville, GA., nieces, Christy and Cindy Lane, six grandchildren: Ruby McMullan, Opal McMullan, Kyler, Kolson, Kara Howell, and Shannon McGrady. She is preceded in death by her parents and sister: Wilma Jane Smith.
Funeral services for Mrs. Cookie Smith will be held on Wednesday, November 16, 2022, at eleven o'clock at Sharon Presbyterian Church with Rev. Jim Lugo officiating. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, November 15, 2022, from 5-7 p.m. at Coile and Hall Funeral Directors. Burial will be held in the Nancy Hart Memorial Park.
Family members will be at their respective homes.
