Mrs. Martha Nell Robinson Wells, 77, of Elberton, wife of the late James Henry “Jimmy” Wells, Jr., entered into rest on Friday, May 3, 2019, at St. Mary’s Hospice House following a sudden illness.
Mrs. Wells was born in Hartwell on January 29, 1942, daughter of the late Monell and Ora Belle Brown Robinson. In addition to her parents and husband, she is preceded in death by her daughter, Marcia Ann Ray and brother, James Farris Robinson.
She is survived by her children: Joe Ray of Elberton and Pam Ray Elliotte and her husband Walter of Davidson, NC; brother, Kenneth Robinson and his wife June of Hartwell; sister-in-law, Ann Robinson of Anderson, SC; and grandchildren: James Myers Elliotte and his wife Ellen of Charleston, SC, Chancellor Joseph Ray of Scottsdale, AZ, Harrison James Ray of Scottsdale, AZ, Tanner Robinson Elliotte of Oxford, MS, Caroline Voncile Elliotte of Raleigh, NC, and Winston Joshua Ray of Phoenix, AZ.

Martha was a homemaker and business owner. “Grammy”, as she was known to her grandchildren, played an important role in all of their lives. Martha was a longtime member of First Baptist Church of Elberton and past member and president of the Elberton Country Club and Iris Garden Club. Martha was an avid golfer who won many tournaments. She was a passionate gardener who so graciously opened her beautiful gardens to generations of young people to enjoy for photos during any event imaginable. She enjoyed china painting for many years, especially with her dear friend, Betty Lester. She cherished her many adventures traveling abroad and attending cooking schools worldwide.

Funeral services celebrating Martha's life will be held on Monday, May 13, at 5 o'clock at First Baptist Church of Elberton with Rev. Gary Purvis officiating. Private family interment will follow in Forest Hills Memorial Park.

The family will greet friends from 3:00-4:30p.m. on Monday prior to the service in the church sanctuary.
Pallbearers will include Hal Holtz, Mohsen Mehrabi, Charles Hill, Lou Harden, Walter McNeely, and Rob Leverett.
