Louette Thornton Smith of Hartwell, GA, passed away at home surrounded by her loving family on January 7, 2024.

Born in Savannah, GA, she was the daughter of the late Louis and Lola Thornton. Growing up in a military family, she caught the travel bug early, some of her fondest memories were growing up in Japan from the age of 4 to 13. Upon returning home to Savannah, GA she attended junior high school and then the family was transferred to Florence, SC where she graduated from McClenaghan high school. After graduation she attended Limestone College in Gaffney, SC where she studied Floral and Textile Design.

She loved floral gardening, sewing, acting, dancing, traveling and her beloved dachshunds: Blue-Bear, Bogie and Rusty, but most of all, she enjoyed spending time with her family. She is survived by her three children, Lee and his wife Laura of Rolling Hills Estates, CA. Daryle and his wife Stephanie of Cape Coral, FL. and Angelique and her husband Gregory of Hartwell, GA. She was also blessed with two grandsons: Taylor of Atlanta, GA and Jackson of Rolling Hills Estates, CA.

She was a member of Mt. Olivet Baptist Church where she enjoyed Sunday School, WMU, Forever Young and volunteering her time when needed, especially during Operation Christmas Child.

She will rest at the family heritage site in Bonaventure Cemetery in Savannah, GA alongside her parents and grandparents. A private family graveside service will be in Savannah, GA.

The family has chosen the Coile and Hall Funeral Directors, 333 E. Johnson St. in Hartwell for
arrangements.
