Mrs. Kathleen Joanne (Matula) Guess, age 82, of Comer, Georgia, passed away peacefully on Sunday, April 12, 2026, at Hartwell Health and Rehab.
Born on November 9, 1943 in Boyceville, WI., she was the daughter of the late Leslie Edwin Matula and Mary Ann Elizabeth (Myers) Matula.
Kathleen was a gifted music teacher with a deep love for the violin, a talent she shared with countless students over the years She had the honor of touring with Andy Williams and Henry Mancini for four years showcasing her remarkable ability. Above all, Kathleen loved the Lord and faithfully served Him from a young age, living a life rooted in faith, grace, and devotion.
She found joy in the simple and beautiful things—playing her violin, tending to her garden, and spending time with those she loved. A devoted wife and mother, Kathleen’s life was a testament to love, kindness, and unwavering dedication to her family. To her grandchildren, she was lovingly known as “Nana,” a name that will forever carry the warmth of her love and presence.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her beloved husband of 46 years James Edgar "Jim" Guess, brother-in-law, Greg Paulson, and sister-in-law, Julie Matula.
Left to cherish her memory are her children: Laura LeBron (Robert) of Lincoln, Nebraska; Michael Guess (Josina) of Comer, Georgia; and Nathan Guess of Mountain View, California. She is also survived by her siblings: Jerry Matula (Jan), Dennis Matula (Tricia), Bonnie Paulson, and Terry Matula (Deb), along with six beloved grandchildren.
A celebration of her life will be held at The Perch located at 1914 Madison St., Comer Ga. on Saturday June 6, 2026 at 7:00 PM. Ice cream will be served.

-Kathleen’s legacy of faith, music, and love will live on in the hearts of all who knew her.
Services have been entrusted to Coile and Hall Funeral Directors and Crematory, 333 E. Johnson Street, Hartwell, GA 30643.
