Joseph Richard Briggs

Mr. Joseph Richard Briggs, age 78 of Hartwell GA passed away at home on May 7, 2025 surrounded by his wife and daughters.

Joe is survived by his loving wife of forty-eight years Jeannie, three daughters and sons in law, Holli and Michael Kircher of Hartwell, GA, Betsy and Blake Zimmerman of Greenville, SC, and Jodie and Ryan Blacklock of Greenville, SC, brother Bobby Briggs of Newnan, GA and special family friend and caregiver Chris Martin of Hartwell, GA. His legacy as "Pops" will be cherished by his eight grandchildren, Morgan, Charlie, Zoey, Ella, Trey, Avery, Sarah and Ben.

Joe was born on July 8,1946 to the late Robert Stanley Briggs and Helen Paul Briggs. He was raised in College Park, Georgia where he attended Georgia Military Academy. He graduated from Clemson University with a bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering and master's degree in Water Resources Engineering. Joe was a professional engineer for 40 years. After marrying Jeannie, they moved to Lake Lanier, GA where they enjoyed sailing for a couple of years. He then picked up chicken farming as a hobby adding some cows, three daughters, and sheep along the way in Flowery Branch, GA. Joe and Jeannie retired to Hartwell, GA where they have lived the past 21 years. Memories of Joe are etched into the hearts of his family, friends and neighbors – whether it's of "Dickie" in his school military uniform, "Joe" in khaki pants and denim shirt or "Pops" in his overalls – his kindness, integrity, generosity, and wisdom left an eternal impact on the lives of so many.

A celebration of Joe's life will be held on Saturday, May 17th at Coile and Hall Funeral Directors Chapel, Hartwell GA. The family will receive visitors at noon followed by the service at 1 PM.
