John William Reid

John William Reid

Mr. John William Reid of 480 Nancy Drive, Hartwell Ga passed away at Piedmont Athens Regional Hospital under the care of Kindred Hospice.

Born of July 7, 1928, he was the son of the late HJ Reid (Erskine) and Lenora Cleveland Reid.
Mr . Reid was retired from Dunlop Sports Division of Hartwell and worked for Textron and Newton Mills also in Hartwell.

Mr. Reid was a member of Mt Olivet Baptist Church and a member of the McDoyle Sunday School Class, Forever Young senior group, former deacon, RA leader, and a member of the Brotherhood men’s group.
One of Mr. Reid’s passions was music. He learned to play guitar at an early age and performed regularly at church events and in various music groups. He was a member of the Gospelites, a music group that performed at many churches throughout the Hartwell area. Mr Reid had also been the choir director at Milltown Baptist Church, Cedar Creek Baptist Church and Mt. Olivet Baptist Church. In Lieu of flowers the family has requested memorials be made to the Mt. Olivet Baptist Church, 2973 Mt. Olivet Road, Hartwell, GA 30643.

Mr. Reid is survived by his wife of 69 years, Carolyn Bowers Reid, sons, Kenneth Reid (Barbara) and William Reid (Tracy) daughters, Susan Webster (Kel) Darlene Jones, Donna Butler (Troy). He is also survived by 10 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren.

Mr. Reid was preceded in death by his sisters Roselle Risner (Web), Idel Shaw (Joe), Willie Burns, (Lonnie), Sybil Kelly, Faye Hailey (Bill).

Funeral services will be held at Mt. Olivet Baptist Church at 2 p.m. Monday, March 4, 2019. Rev. Jason Webb, Rev. Scott Mize and Mr. Leslie Boles officiating. Burial will be at Mt. Olivet Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will greet friends immediately following the service in the church sanctuary.

The family will be at the home, 480 Nancy Drive in Hartwell.

Coile and Hall Funeral Directors and Cremation Services, 333 E. Johnson Street will be in charge of arrangements.
