Mr. Joe Edward Blackwell, a Hartwell resident, passed away on Friday, October 15, 2021 at Piedmont Athens Regional Medical Center.
He was born on May 5, 1948 in Hartwell, GA. to the late Robert Joe Maxwell and Doris Thornton. He was a member of St John CME Church.
Mr. Blackwell is survived by his wife; Suzanna Rucker Blackwell, children; Elaine Hickman of Hartwell, GA., Yolanda Evans Payne of Decatur, GA., LaVern Evans of Decatur, GA., Stacey Maxwell of Louisville, KY., sisters; Fannie Stephens, Sallye Thornton, JoAnn Harland, Gloria Whittenburg, Jackquline Maxwell, Dorothy Maxwell, Betty Rucker, brothers; Kenneth Thornton, Roy Thornton, Robert Maxwell, Sammy Maxwell, Richard Maxwell, Talmage Thornton, Thomas Thornton, Walter Thornton, ten grandchildren and nine great grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents, sisters; Cozell Thornton Cooper, Jessie Thornton Stephenson, Annie Wilkins, and son; Bobby Rucker.
The family has chosen cremation and no services will be held.
