Joann Blackwell Mitchell (JoJo) was born February 20, 1942 in Hartwell, GA. Joann transitioned on Monday, September 14, 2020.
She was the daughter of Dewitt and Jessie Starks Blackwell, she lived in Chicago, IL for 62 years and returned home to Hartwell on June 2019. Joann was a clef prior to her retirement.

Preceding her in death were her parents and her husband, Lamar Mitchell; brothers: Leonard Blackwell, Dewitt Blackwell Jr.; sisters: Doris Thornton, Mildred Heard, and Mary E. Alexander. She leaves to cherish fond memories, a special friend Monroe Sharpe; children: Deborah Ricky Chambers, Portia A. Mitchell, Lamar Mitchell Jr. of Cedar Rapids, IA; sisters: Gerolene Sheller of Statesville, NC, Della Ree Smith of Killen, TX, Rosa L. Tucker of Hartwell, GA; sisters-in-law: Sue N. Mitchell, Mattie Blackwell, Shirley Verdell of Hartwell, GA, Melinda Blackwell of Statesville, NC; brother-in-laws: Sterling Mitchell, James E. Thornton Sr., Charles Heard of Hartwell, GA, David Mitchell of Athens, GA, Terry Mitchell of Atlanta, GA; 10 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren, 1 great-great grandchild and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Memorial services celebrating her life will be held on Saturday, September 19, 2020 at Eleven o'clock in the chapel of Coile and Hall Funeral Directors with Rev. Ronald Gantt officiating. The family will be at their respective homes.

Services have been entrusted to Coile and Hall Funeral Directors and Cremations, 333 E. Johnson Street in Hartwell.
