Mr. Jesse Woodfin Burdette, 97, of Double Bridges Road, Elberton, husband of 66 years to the late Jeanette Brown Burdette, passed away peacefully on Thursday, March 28, 2024, at Piedmont Athens Regional Hospital with is family by his side.

Mr. Burdette was born in Elbert County on December 4, 1926, son of the late William Henry Burdette and Ina Mae Stalnaker Burdette. Jesse proudly served his country in the United States Navy Seabees during World War II. He worked at Monroe Automotive Company and was a lifelong farmer, who was proud to have received title of Farmer of the Year for Elbert County. In his early years, he worked as a bus driver and drove a milk truck.

Mr. Burdette was a devoted member of Harmony Baptist Church, where he served as Chairman of the Deacons, Sunday school chairman, and Sunday school teacher. Avid travelers, Jesse and Jeanette enjoyed RV camping all across the United States; however, his favorite destination was the mountains.

Surviving are his children and their spouses: Donald and Joan Burdette, Ralph and Kathy Burdette, Linda and Bubba Davis; daughters-in-law, Beth Cryder Burdette and Peggy Paramore Burdette; twelve grandchildren; twenty eight great-grandchildren; and eighteen great-great-grandchildren.

Along with his wife and parents, he is preceded in death by his sons: Lanier Burdette and Roger Burdette; brothers and sisters-in-law: Joe and Ailene Burdette and Thomas and Gwen Burdette; two grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Funeral services celebrating Jesse’s life will be conducted on Saturday, March 30, at 2:00p.m. at Harmony Baptist Church with the Rev. Lyn Kellum officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.

The family will greet friends from 1:00-1:45p.m. prior to the service at the church.

Pallbearers will include Jamie Bailey, Tommy Bailey, Chris Burdette, Rusty Burdette, Sean Burdette, Joe Sanders, and Brandon Scarborough. Honorary pallbearers will include Andrew Bailey, Marty Bailey, Kyle Bailey, Braxton Burdette, Braydon Scarborough, Konrad Wilder, and Kasey Wilder.

Flowers are accepted and contributions may be made in his memory to Harmony Baptist Church, 2055 Harmony Road, Elberton, GA 30635 or to Cornerstone Baptist Church AWANA Program, 1543 Anderson Highway, Hartwell, GA 30643.
