Mrs. Hannah Mae Pless Brown Bowen, 81, of Brewers Bridge Road, Elberton, passed away on Thursday, January 14, 2022, at Doctors Hospital in Augusta. She was twice married, first to the late Otis Hamp Brown for 52 years and second to Charles Edward Bowen, Sr. for 7 years.

Mrs. Bowen was born in Toccoa on May 6, 1940, daughter of the late Rev. Oscar Cecil Pless and Lathey Young Pless. She was a retired clerk having worked at Salvation Army and a member of Faith Valley Holiness Church. She enjoyed listening to gospel music.

Survivors, in addition to her husband Charles, are her children: Marlow and Marilyn Brown of Elberton, Phyllis and Kevin Toney of Hartwell, and Dewayne and Rita Brown of Dewy Rose; step-son, Charles "Buck" Bowen, Jr.; brother, Roy Lee and Betty Pless of Elberton; grandchildren: Kristi and Grant Myerholtz, Brian and Heather Toney, Derrick and Amanda Brown, Brooke and Brandon Cawthon, Renae Brown, and Luke Brown; great-grandchildren: Canaan, LilyAnn, Hayden, Braden, Carter, Owen, Korbin, and Adalynn; and numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives.


In addition to her husband Hamp and parents, she is preceded in death by her siblings: Geneva Duncan, Jeanette Shepherd, Cecil Pless, Hubert Pless, and Jimmy Pless.

Funeral services celebrating her life will be held on Wednesday, January 19, at 2 o'clock in the Memorial Chapel of Berry Funeral Home with the Rev. Hubert Carter officiating. Interment will follow in the Sardis Baptist Church Cemetery with Grant Myerholtz, Brian Toney, Rodney Bryant, Chris Shepherd, Terry Pless, and Derrick Brown honored as pallbearers.

The family is at their respective homes and will receive friends on Tuesday, January 18, from 6:00-8:00p.m. at Berry Funeral Home.
