Edward Gilbert Padgett, born on July 12, 1949, passed away on June 26, 2026, at his residence in Elberton, GA. Eddie has joined his Savior in glory! He has reunited with his Father God Almighty and with his mother, father, and beloved sister who crossed over that River Jordan before him. There in paradise in our Lord’s loving embrace surrounded by friends and family who he missed here and longed to see again.
Surviving him are his wife Arlene, son Jesse, his wife Jennifer, and their son Jesse. And his two younger brothers, Jody Padgett and his wife Nancy, and Pete Padgett and his wife Kim and their children.
He was born in Black Mountain, NC and resided in the Asheville area until 2015 when he and Arlene moved to Elberton, GA. He retired from the Charles George VA Medical Center in Asheville, NC and then went to work for the NC Division of Veterans Affairs. His lifelong goal was to improve the lives and care of the fighting men and women of the United States Armed Forces. He and his best friend John Shaw worked tirelessly to champion the cause of the American Service member. He was a member of Freedom Baptist Church, The American Legion Post 70, and the Swannanoa Masonic Lodge #561.
Please join the family for a time of visitation on Thursday, July 2, 2026, from 1:00 to 2:30 p.m. at Harwood Home for Funerals. A celebration of life will immediately follow, and we invite you to share your favorite stories and memories of Eddie. The family requests that Eddie’s passing be a celebration of life and that everyone wear bright colors in lieu of black.
Coile and Hall Funeral Directors and Crematory of Hartwell, Ga., is in charge of local arrangements.
