Mr. Coy Mattox, age 84 of 73 Ware Street in Hartwell, passed away peacefully at Elbert Memorial Hospital on November 19, 2021

He was born on August 18, 1937 in Hartwell, Ga., to the late Coy Iotria Inell Mattox and Mattie Belle McCurdy Mattox.

He joined Maple Springs Baptist Church at an early age. Later, he joined in Holy Matrimony to the late Evelyn Maxwell Mattox. In this union, three children were born; Lydia Tucker Shumaker, Wanda Hunter Gaines, and Bridgette Carter. He then joined Ruckers Grove Baptist Church. In his later years, Mr. Coy rejoined in Holy Matrimony to the late Laura Sue Montgomery Mattox. Two children preceded him in death; Gloria Dianne Montgomery and Joseph Frank Mattox.

Coy was loved by all. He was a loving husband, father, and loved his family and friends. He retired from the Hart County Road Department. He loved to sing, gardening, singing the gospel with many different groups and his family. He ended a five generation. Praise God for him.

Left to cherish his memories are his children, Jerrell Mattox of Washington State, Bridgette (Joseph) Carter of Hartwell, GA., Lydia (Larry) Shumakerof Hartwell, GA., Wanda (Ken) Gaines of Hartwell, GA., Michael Mattox of Toccoa, GA., and Jeffrey Mattox of Washington State., daughter-in-law; Sherrie Mattox, sisters; Ruby Drugg, Willie Oglesby, Annette Mattox, brothers; Horace Mattox, Benny Mattox, Curtis Mattox, Qullie (Mattie) Mattox, brother-in-laws; Douglas Morrison, George Maxwell, sister-in-laws; Melzie McIntosh, Eula Tate, Phyllis Thomson, Godchild; Jimmy McIntosh, Birdy Gaines, close friends; Mr. Terry Harper, Mr. Willie Keese nephew; Kalvin Ravenell, twenty-six grandchildren and thirty-eight great-grandchildren, five great-great grandchildren and one on the way that he was so happy for, three God grandchildren and one God great grandchild, three blessed daughters; Hollie Jones Fowler, Kimberly Langston, and Nicole Parker Battle.

He was preceded in death by his parents, children, Joseph Frank Mattox and Gloria Diane Montgomery, sisters; Vinnie Lee Morrison, Inell Mattox, brothers; Ricky Mattox, Joseph Thomas Mattox, sister-in-laws and brother-in-laws; Talmadge Maxwell, John Emmitt Maxwell, Mary Mattox, Pearl Joe Rucker, William Montgomery, Roosevelt Montgomery, BJ Montgomery, Mattie Lee Griffin, Hale Montgomery, Ben Montgomery, Clara Teasley. close friends; Troy Blackwell, Sally Rucker, Addie McIntosh.

The family would like to Thank Hart County EMS, Hart County High School Band, Hartwell Police Dept., Frankie Gray and his staff, Dr. Gordan, Elbert Memorial Hospital, St. Marys Hospital, Athens Regional, and Always Caring.

Funeral services will be Friday, November 26, 2021 at Two o'clock in the chapel of Coile and Hall Funeral Directors. Burial will be in Rucker's Grove Baptist Church Cemetery. Family will greet friends one hour prior to the funeral service at the funeral home.
