Bonnie Faye Broome Whitsel, age 88, wife to the late Homer Edward Whitsel, of 427 Flat Shoals Road Bowersville, GA 30516 passed away on Sunday, July 6, 2025, peacefully surrounded by her loving family. Born May 2, 1937, in the “Blackjack Community” of Westminster, SC she was the daughter of the late D.C. and Leila Honea Broome.
Bonnie was a life member of Shoal Creek Baptist Church, where “Bonnie Whitsel Day” was founded, a day dedicated to her selfless service to her church and the children’s ministry. Bonnie worked in textiles and later drove a school bus for the Hart County School System for more than twenty years. In addition to loving her family well Bonnie will be known for the impact she made during her time in Missionary Ministry in Kentucky and even traveling to Africa at the spry age of 70.
In addition to her husband, and parents Bonnie is preceded in death by her brothers Rudy and Pete Broome, Sister Peggy Broome Hall, and brother- in- law Lumuel Kennedy.
Bonnie is survived by her children; Paula Whitsel Ray (Charles), Calvin Whitsel (Brenda), and Rickie Whitsel. Sisters Barbara Broome Gilmore, Shirley Broome Morris, Reggie Broome Kennedy. Nine grandchildren; Jessica Laverdiere (Tracy), Tiffany Bruce (John), Ryan Ray (Kristin), Jason Whitsel (Hannah), Tonya Powers, Marlaina Irwin (Wes), Ricky Whitsel, Jr. (Gracie), Kimberly Whitsel, and Missy Vaughn (Jared). Twenty great- grandchildren; Allison Bogdan, Marissa Hernandez (Josue). Isaiah, Hannah, Kaiden, and Keeghan Laverdiere, Hunter and Lillie Faye Bruce, Cohen Whitmire, Graham Powers, Corbin and Charlie Ray, Addison Whitsel, Breanna Shattles (Cody), Emily Belanger, Blane Dodson, Axle Whitsel, as well as four great- great- grandchildren Katie Shattles, Nolan Hernandez, Emerson Johnson, Savannah Whitsel and Willow Bruce.
The family will receive friends from 11:00 a.m. – 1:00 P.m. on Wednesday, July 9, 2025, at Coile and Hall Funeral Directors and Crematory 333 E Johnson Street Hartwell, GA 30643. A Celebration of Life will be held at 1:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Coile and Hall Funeral Directors and crematory. Burial will follow at Franklin Memorial Gardens- North.
