More Than Just My Aunty

No child of her own—

but that doesn't mean

she was childless.

She claimed every child

with open arms,

soft eyes,

and a voice that could hush a storm

or stir a soul.

She was more than just my auntymom p—

she was

a second mom.

Sundays were for church,

Pants neatly ironed,

hymns rising like sun through stained glass.

But some days—

she’d take me to places I’d never been before—

the museum,

the park,

the corner store with the candy I liked.

Even dreams I didn’t know I could have.

Aunty—

a title too small

for hands that healed,

for feet that marched for righteousness,

for a heart that held

the prayers of a thousand nights.

She worried like a mother.

She nurtured like a mother.

And when she spoke,

wisdom wrapped itself around every word—

like Scripture,

like lullabies,

like warnings you don’t forget

even when you try.

She taught love—

not just hugs and kisses kind—

but God’s kind.

The perfect kind.

Salvation and grace,

for both you

and me.

She preached without a pulpit—

but her life was a sermon:

Love God.

Love people.

Live holy.

Live free.

And now—

though she’s gone—

her words

still echo in the marrow of me.

She was never just my aunty.

She was more.

She is more.

Forever.
