Albert H.
Anderson
September 6, 1934 – March 3, 2026
Mr. Albert Henry “Candy Man” Anderson, age 91, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, March 3, 2026, at Piedmont Athens Regional Medical Center in Athens, Georgia.
Born on September 6, 1934, in Abbeville, South Carolina, he was the son of the late Henry Anderson and Lizzie Mae (Johnson) Anderson. Albert was a faithful attendee of Mt. Zion Baptist Church.
Albert was known by many as the “Candy Man,” a nickname that reflected his warm spirit and the kindness he shared with others. A talented mechanic, he loved spending time working on cars with his skilled hands. When he wasn’t under the hood of a vehicle, Albert could often be found doing what he loved most—going fishing. He also enjoyed cheering on his favorite team, the Atlanta Braves, and rarely missed a chance to watch them play.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Essie Anderson; his son, James Anderson; his siblings, John Anderson, Georgia Bell Bowen, Dwight Anderson, and Reba Anderson; and two grandchildren, Lil’ Doug Jones and Tammy Jones.
Albert leaves behind a loving family who will forever cherish his memory: his children, Billy Anderson (Lisa), Melvin Anderson, Jerry Anderson, and Alice Jones (Doug). He was a proud grandfather to Shemeko Thompson (Marcus), Kemeko " Phat" Colon, Shamarcus Anderson, Pamela Odister, Joshua Jones, Melvin Anderson, Jr., Kendrick Anderson, Derrick Anderson, and Donte Anderson. His passing also leaves a void in the hearts of many great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends who were blessed to know and love him.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday, March 11, 2026, from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM at Coile and Hall Funeral Directors. A funeral service to celebrate Albert’s life will be held on Thursday, March 12, 2026, at 11:00 AM in the chapel of Coile and Hall Funeral Directors. Interment will follow at Mt. Zion Baptist Church Cemetery.
The family is at the home of Marcus and Shemeko Thompson, 1685 Beacon Light Road, Hartwell, Georgia.
The family would like all who knew and loved Albert to remember the words he often shared “Keep your hand in the Good Man’s hand.” His faith, wisdom, and love will continue to guide those he leaves behind.
Funeral services have been entrusted to Coile and Hall Funeral Directors, 333 E. Johnson Street, Hartwell, Georgia 30643.
